Irene and Clare
This blog is going to be a very good debate, with everyones personal opinion. I do not think Irene pushed clare out the window. Clare was going through her own life struggles and issues that she probably felt this was the easiest thing to do to solve her problem. Im guessing that she felt if she just fell out the window all her problems would go away and killing herself would be the easiest solution, when in reality its not. In the booked the author made it seem by Clares death Irene was very upset about it,so i dont think she would of pushed her out the window to kill her.

I agree a bit. I don't trust Clare wanted to kill herself. After all she was so into having a good life for herself, and she was so deep into the net of lies that she probably could talk herself out ot the situation, or at least try to help herself. And if not, she said at one point, that if her husband would ever found out about her, she would move back to Harlem. I think it was an accident. She was so close to this huge open window, and maybe Irene and Clare's husband went to reach out to her somehow, but she was too close to the other side. I understand, that Irene went nuts over Clare. She was sure that Clare may have an affair with her husband, and she was really upset over Clare putting her well-organized life up-side down, but Irene had human feelings. She wanted Clare out of the picture, but she didn't want her dead. Irene didn't push Clare out the window in my opinion, but she created the whole situation in the apartment. The situation caused Clare's life. Irene never told anyone about seeing Clare's husband, and the fact that he may be looking for the truth about Clare. If that would not happen Clare would never be in this apartment, she would be home planning her next move.
ReplyDeleteI believe that part of Clare wanted her husband to find out about it. I don't think she "fell" out of the window. I feel that part of Clare was relieved when her secrets came unfold. The pressure began to come off (rather than build up) because I think that Clare wanted a more organic lifestyle. When you say "she said at one point, that if her husband would ever found out about her, she would move back to Harlem." I think she wanted to move back to Harlem. She wanted so desperately to live an honest and fun life once she became close to Irene again. Irene made her realize that the grass wasn't greener on the other side.
ReplyDeleteBut when all of Clare's secrets came unfold, it was Irene who was responsible for this. Irene wanted to end the whole situation (Clare). Clare just wanted redemption.
she may have pushed her out the window because Irene was going through so much with Clare in her life, she couldn't take it. Or Clare didnt want to live with her husband knowing she was African American. All i know is that Irene wanted to do something about Clare because she felt that Clare was going to take her husband.
