Do you think marriage is still needed in today's society? Why/why not?
To be honest I do not think that marriage is still needed in society today. The reason why I feel this way is because some people in general never want to get married so why should they be forced to? Being forced into a marriage for example if you are pregnant people feel as if that is the right thing to do. I disagree people get pregnant and should not have to marry just for the baby. For example my mother got married at 19 because she was pregnant a year later divorces because she married a man she was not in love with. If you marry when forced that relationship will never work out with all of the fighting because two people are unhappy. Society had changed so much from back in the day.

yeah, that makes me think of that movie we watched, Riding in Cars with Boys. But then go watch Fast Times at Ridgemont High, when the guy gets the girl pregnant, and they split the cost of the abortion.
ReplyDeletebut yeah, forced marriage is the pits. I believe in marriage for love only.
I definitely agree with the statement that people should not marry just because they are pregnant. I knew someone at my old college who got pregnant her last year of high school and got married with hopes of "making it work" and to "do it for the baby". But I feel that when marriage is predicated on those terms, it just paves the path for an ill marriage. She is now getting a divorce on friendly terms but recognizes that the only love in the marriage was for the child and they can raise the child as a unit but not a couple. I also agree with Judah that I believe in marriage for love only.
ReplyDeleteI think marriage is just a public ceremony for showing affection.
ReplyDeleteNot that i'm being a pessimist, but the problem is most people are divorced now compared to 10 years ago.
